Free [REC] LAN - Tucson, Sept. 7th

Postby fodder on Tue Aug 28, 2007 4:20 pm

What?: [REC]king Crew LAN(finally): BF2, CS:S, UT2004 (we wish it was UT3!)
When?: Friday, September 7th 6pm-2am
Where?: Catalina Midtown Church multi-purpose building - 1900 N Country Club Rd.
Permission Slip: 09-07-07_permslip.doc

Yes, this is actually an [REC] LAN - we've been crazy busy and still are, but withdrawal is starting to kick in and there is only one way to fix that. Thanks to Kungfuhero, we have a great new location - in the middle of town. It's a multi-purpose building with an awesome sound system, 3 projectors and even automatic front doors so you can bring all your gear in easily! More details will be posted over the next week (tournaments, prizes, sponsors, permission slip, as we finalize the details.) Fodder will be updating the attendee list as people either post here or PM him:

Confirmed Attendees: (Updated: 09/05/07)

Who:
All ages are welcome so bring a friend/brother/whatever to play. (If you are under 18 years old you'll need to bring a signed permission slip and if you are under 13 you'll need to bring a parent/guardian. :-)

Cost:
Free! (unless you want to pitch in on pizza)

Guidelines:
- No alcohol or drugs allowed (we make an exception for caffeine :-).
- No porn (including screensavers, wallpaper, etc.)
- Headsets only - NO SPEAKERS!

Food and Drink: We will order pizza with a cutoff time of 7:30pm so we can hopefully have it by 8:00. Anyone wanting pizza just needs to pitch in $5 cash before we order - if you miss the deadline - we're sorry, but we only order once a night. If you don't want pizza, you are welcome to bring your own snacks (but NO POPCORN). It's bring your own caffeine/soda, but a cooler is available for drinks. Sharpies will be there to allow you to mark your stuff.

What Do I Need To Bring?:
This is a BYOC (bring your own computer) event (yes, that includes the mouse, monitor, keyboard and power cords), a headset, a power strip and a CAT5 cable. If you have a spare computer you would like to allow others to use, we would really appreciate it. AND...a lot of tables don't like optical mice, so BRING A MOUSE PAD!!! (or two!)

Game Patches and Maps: All patches and maps will be available for local download at the LAN, but if you want to start playing right when you get there, here's what you'll need:

BF2: Patch 1.41
CS:S: Update through Steam
UT2004: Patch 3369 (all other downloads available by automatic download from a redirect server)

Location Details:
Just look for the sorta-pyramid-shaped building with lots of glass windows :) and drive around behind it to the larger building. We'll have a sign or two up on the front door, but it's pretty hard to miss.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
***TOURNAMENT INFO***

UT2004 #1: Standard DM Competition, Start time - approx. 9pm
Everyone will play the following DeathMatch maps (not TDM) of varying sizes. The lowest scoring players (number depends on total gamers) will be eliminated at the end of each map until only four players remain. Those four play one final round.

First round maps: (more can be added, as needed)
DM-Desolation (Instagib)
DM-CBP2-Reconstruct (Big Head)
DM-UCMP-Rancidmetal (No mutators)
DM-CBP1-Finale (No mutators)

The final round will be projected on the big screen as a spectator. A player will be followed until they die, then the next player will be spec'ed.

Final round map:
DM-1on1-Spirit (No mutators)

UT2004 #2: Instagib, Dual Wield, 300 point DeathMatch, Start time - TBA
This is a single round DM tourney that we will play if enough people want to! All players will vote for a medium-sized map and the first to 300 points wins. (Currently no prize, just bragging rights!)

BF2: Best player, by individual score over multiple rounds. Start time - approx. 10pm
An admin will decide on the number of maps and tickets per map just before the tourney and depending on the number of gamers. Players will be randomly placed on teams on every map. It's up to you if you want to form a squad, be a lone gunner or try for commander - only points matter!

Maps we will chose from:
Mashtuur City
Sharqi
Karkand
Wake Island
Jalalabad
Dragon Valley

CS:S: Team based, Double elimination, Start time - approx. 11pm
An [REC] admin will organize teams just before the tourney. Up to four person teams will be placed in double elimination brackets indicating who they will play and on what server. (The number of servers will depend on available equipment and number of teams participating.) Each bracket will be a best out of three rounds with the two participating teams alternating sides and the starting sides determined by coin toss.

Maps: TBA

Note: The above tournaments are what we are planning. Any number of things can alter plans. :-) The biggest of these being the number of participants in any given tournament. So we reserve the right to make changes/cancellations/postponements as needed to keep the night fun and moving along!

Well Folks,

I have to say that, in my humble opinion, that was, hands down, our best LAN yet. My final count for total gamers (including the N64 people!) was 43!! And if we include everyone who came to hang out, talk, or play a few rounds on the Cross Bones machines throughout the night, it was well over 50.

As always, thanks to everyone who came and everyone who helped out in one way or another. Among others, Kungfu and Cross Bones for landing the great location, sponsoring a bunch of prizes, and bringing the extra PCs. The DRC guys who hosted both BF2 servers (and TeamSpeak) and were a big help cleaning up. EchoVoice for coming down from Phoenix and hosting all the CS:S games (and some of the prizes, lol.) And a huge thanks to Catalina Church of Midtown for letting us use their amazing facility!

There are certainly things that [REC] wants to continue to improve at (thanks, Sirius, for saving us on the music :-) but overall things went very smoothly and I hope that everyone who came had as good a time as I did.

Due to how busy we all are, I'm not sure when our next LAN will be (although I did hear some suggestions about a Halloween LAN,) but of course we'll post when we have something concrete.

Good times.

P.S. If you get a pop-up at ReckingCrew.Com, please just ignore it, I'm not completely sure where they are coming from but I am close to tracking it down...I think it's our domain forwarding. :-(
